Trainer Amy Murphy has reserved the name Southgate with the British Horseracing Authority following England’s success at Euro 2020.

Manager Gareth Southgate has led the team to the semi-finals of the tournament and Murphy has been quick to seize an opportunity.

‘We’re always trying to be inventive and think of different ways to attract owners into the yard,’ she said.

‘The yard is called Southgate Stables, so as soon as England got through the group stage it made sense to reserve it.

The evening racecards at Bath and Kempton on Wednesday have been brought forward to avoid clashing with England’s semi-final against Denmark.

Meanwhile, Broome on Sunday made it a stellar weekend for Aidan O’Brien by winning the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud — the trainer’s first success in the race. It follows his victory with St Mark’s Basilica in Saturday’s Coral-Eclipse at Sandown.
