Robin Goodfellow’s Racing Tips: Best bets for Saturday, March 27

John Gosden and son Thady welcomed a first victory for their new training set-up at Lingfield and HAQEEQY (Doncaster, 3.10) can rubberstamp the partnership in Saturday afternoon’s Unibet Lincoln.

Adding a son to a trainer’s licence has become a trend recently and the prospect of facing two Gosdens might be enough to strike fear into the hearts of other trainers. The bookmakers certainly haven’t taken any chances with the duo’s representative in the Town Moor feature with Newmarket trainers dominating the market.

Both Haqeeqy and Eastern World, saddled by Charlie Appleby, have profiles of potential Group horses masquerading as handicappers and there can be a good case made for the latter judged on his outstanding victory at Meydan last month.

But Eastern World disappointed behind the selection when the duo tackled a seven-furlong handicap at Saturday’s venue last September and Gosden’s four-year-old finished off in such a powerful manner that a mile looks well within his remit.

Team Gosden have displayed great faith in rookie apprentice Benoit De La Sayette, who has burst on to the scene this winter, partnering three winners for them from just a handful of rides.

This turf assignment will be a vastly different test for the young rider after a winter on the all-weather, but he appears to have a classy ally in Haqeeqy and a stalls position in the centre of the field means they can track wherever they sense the best pace.

Of those at bigger prices, Scottish Summit and Dashing Roger have some appeal. Their chances rely on a high draw being advantageous, but there is plenty of pace on the stands’ side rail with Dashing Roger one of the pace angles in the 22 runners.

Although now eight, Scottish Summit has posted two of his best performances on his last three starts and was a notable eyecatcher on his Wolverhampton return.

A straight track and decent ground are his optimum conditions, though, and this strong traveller could outrun his odds.
